Due to everything that is going on in the World of Computers lately, my 2026 goal is to go paper over digital as much possible. Finally found a journal/organizer setup I am happy with. I am deeply sorry to everyone who can read Japanese, my handwriting and grammar may be hazardous to your eyes. But that's the reason I decided to go with it instead of my native language, to practice.

@spook I am doing something similar where I took off my Apple Watch finally and I'm tracking my health goals on a piece of grid paper with colored pencils

@gregtatum do you find it more relaxing too?It feels silly to admit, but when I'm writing on paper, I experience a kind of peacefulness. Never happened with apps or spreadsheets, no matter how "ergonomic" they were.

@spook My system is pretty simple, mostly drawing little icons on a page, but it does give me that same sense of accomplishment of "earning" a workout. I do find putting my weight in the Google Sheets app to be the most horrendous experience from my phone. I think for me it's about being able to design a system that works for me, and have my wishes respected.

@spook @gregtatum That is a beautiful planner cover! I just bought a paper planner myself yesterday for 2026.I don't know about peacefulness, but I feel that writing on paper gives me space for playfulness and small distractions like doodles and flourishes on the corners, while on the computer distractions are usually much more expensive...

@wrench @gregtatum the cover painting's author is Kyohei Sakaguchi, I agree it's very beautiful, tranquil. I recommend reading about him if you don't know him, especially his Zero Yen architecture projects!
