@newt It's esentially Dark Souls 3 (so basically casual mode on at all times) with the addition of recycled movesets for mobs that have insanely extended range because they couldn't figure out a less shitty way of adapting the combat system to an open world setting.

@Aeder oh damn it. It's the one thing I really do hate in modern gaming, OPEN WORLD.Are there any other good soulslikes from other companies?

@jorgaborg @Aeder open worlds suck because they are a cheap way to replace building a tightly-woven narrative, dumping a player instead into a single map with a bunch of NPCs that give fetch quests. And going from A to B and back a dozen times over isn't exactly a fun gameplay.

@newt @Aeder looser narratives are more fun imo. a lot of rpgs feel very much like they’re on rails.

@jorgaborg @Aeder it's the other end of the spectrum. I like the first Dark Souls for this. It had a narrative but still allowed multiple paths through it. Also, the level design and how different areas were linked to each other are still unmatched, even by the sequels. You only get a limited fast travel ability in the second half of the game and you still only really need it occasionally.

@newt The bosses all play like regular Dark Souls bosses for the most part (except you can jump now). It's the open world part that is tedious. As for other 'souls-likes'... My experience has been that they all fucking suck in one way or another if you're expecting a similar experience because none of them put effort into making combat or exploration feel the same way.You have to approach them as 'generic ARPG' instead. Or play Sekiro instead, which is not a souls like but it has its own type of combat where it's satisfying to overcome a challenge.
