       My HP #penplotter only speaks GPIB, so I have been talking to it via an Arduino Uno running AR488 with a hand-wired shield, which I just replaced with a Nano on a nice little PCB and it works great!DM me if you would like a board, I have a few extras. It's wired like the first diagram in Appendix A of the AR488 manual.
