It's pretty weird and creepy. Like a humanoid spider was caught in its own net and died

@Morghur This was supposed to be an ancient half preserved corpse of something unknown, but I like your interpretation more, almost like an explanation or myth. Its like what we were talking about the other day, about different cultures same entity.

Yeah, i like that a lot more. Like how it creates a legend about a devilish creature that drags away people guilty of something.Plus, i wanted to ask you about Djinns. Here they are obviously obscure but as far as i known they are sometimes seen as dark malicious entities while in other cases they are seen as just supernatural creatures that live away from humans.

@Morghur Jinn just means "unseen", for instance we believe satan is a jinn. The word Ghoul comes fron gul, which is a type of jinn that eats corpses. But so are the ones that, in myth, build kingdoms under the command of some kings. Jinns existed before humans and had their own civilization and cultures, but got corrupted and fell, and now live invisible to us, thus, "unseen". Its a term with a very broad definition.I guess the european analogue would be "daemon".

That is very interesting and it's why i really love mythology. And hearing things like this start to get my mind running and getting some ideas based on this concept of primordial beings fallen from grace.Plus, ironically jews in my fantasy thing align a bit with what you told.

@Morghur Theres a lot more to the jinn lore that i am not clear on but remember fragments of, like future sight, transformations, fake towns etc.Tfw you cant even escape jews in a fantasy setting 😯

Well, every fantasy setting needs evil creatures and beings and i decided on indians, jews and chinks. When it comes to kikes in my setting they are an ancient race apart from humanity that were physically frail but powerful with magic that established a prosperous kingdom after a long period of infiltration of a human kingdom that sold itself out. They begun to commit horrid and unspeakable rituals to an ancient forbidden god that made the old gods angry and for that, their land was erased from the world and their kind eternally cursed to never walk under the sun, more frail and hideously disgusting to anyone's sight. Now they live underground, eternally angry and jealous of those in the surface, plotting their downfall and still sacrificing those they manage to kidnap. Power hungry lords and petty criminals still make deals with them to gain power, influence and wealth at the cost of everything they hold dear, for the Hutmals only know greed and hatred for anyone that is not their. What do you think?

@Morghur Dang, immediately im actually seeing some similarities to the jinn lore, as "black magic" is simply humans calling upon jinns to do their bidding. But also this reminds me of the theory of cave dwelling creatures/aliens that kidnap humans in the appalachias. The twists that you added, like their initial downfall, and them plotting to take over are very neat, im wondering if their corruption was more cultural than physical, although I suppose cultural corruption can affect the physical too.

Their corruption was first spiritual, later cultural and ultimately physical as some of their rites required physical disfigurement and mutilation. That eventually carried generation upon generation making them resemble hideous beings more than their original form. It was demanded by the ancient god that is know as "The hateful one" for which they carried horrible sacrifices and rituals. For that, all the other gods cast them to the depths of the earth and their land was banished from existance.Their plot to take over the world is their own belief in the manifest destiny of their race and their own superiority since they believe that their superior magical powers set them apart from all the other races as far better than them. They hope to use those that make deals with them to achieve their goals and they keep on with their horrific rites in hopes that The Hateful One grants them greater power with which they will dominate the world. It is said that one can call them by cutting a piece of a gold or silver coin and leaving it in front of an opening to an underground passage. They have several weaknesses like being weak to olive tree wood, lavender essence and sulphur. As well, the dwarves that live underground hunt them for sport when they move in large numbers into Basix.

@Morghur I love how they have all these grand plans of world takeover and then fall for jewelry layed outside their caves, its very ironic but also shows how easily a population can develop tunnel vision. Archetypes like these are always the most fascinating ones in fiction imo.

I also had another archetype in the high elves. How they see them as the epitome of civilization, culture and knowledge but due to their own personal bias and self assurance they actively believe faulty information or outright lies promoted by their own and they will not dare to question them or they will lose their own reputation

@Morghur a nice change of pace, elves are almost always arbiters of technology and infrastructure, the most knowledgeable. I think any population having some corrupting force inside that they have to fight nonstop is more dynamic. I think this world youre crafting has a lot of potential for stories.

I think some people will say it's a common trope but i don't care. I give each race some sort of "racial negative stereotype" that they are known for in general.Elves are proud in their beliefs and knowledge. Dwarves are greedy and live in an overbearing oppresive society. Humans are known for being treacherous and unreliable. Moots are thieving lazy bums. Goblins are eccentric and childish. For example, one of the main characters in my project is a high elf heir of a noble family. And in certain points she will be deeply conflicted between her conceptions of "what being a noble" entails and how she really is as well as the things she will learn and her preconcieved notions of what elves should consider true or not

@Morghur Maybe it is a common trope but thats jusy because its a useful one, how can a race rise above subhumanity if there is no resistance. Im so used to goblins being rapey troglodytes eccentricism is a nice chnage of pace id say.

I was also tired of goblins being just savage uncultured troglodytes but i took the Gothic (the game) approach. They appear simple and childish to outsiders but they have a quite complex and unique society. Thing is that they live far away from most people since they know they are not liked. And like the small races (goblins, moots, dwarves) they don't like big people
