If the world is supplied with 100% renewable energy, 50% of the global shipping traffic will be eliminated, coal oil and gas no longer needs to be transported#endfossilfuels#oilkills

@hart But then they would be in part replaced with ships hauling raw resources to build solar panels, etc

@hart "If we switched to renewable energy", the number of ships crossing the ocean would fall by approximately 100%, because ships don't cross the ocean on renewable energy.

@Zimme83 @hart There's always one doofus who shows up with a tall ship. You do realize that there are no sailboats currently operating in the international oceangoing shipping trade, right? You do realize that even if we were to go hog wild building sailboats, they could in no wise carry the tonnage that the global market currently depends upon, right?

@gcvsa @Zimme83 @hart You should really, REALLY inform yourself before being so brazenly and confidently wrong.https://chaos.social/@Natanox/114919604818069147

@gcvsa @hart not hard to find a climate denier, but amazing to discover an East India company denier.

@kludgekml @hart It's not hard to find an anachronism, either. You do realize that there are no sailboats currently operating in the international oceangoing shipping trade, right? You do realize that even if we were to go hog wild building sailboats, they could in no wise carry the tonnage that the global market currently depends upon, right? It's not the 18th Century, anymore, sirrah.

@gcvsa @kludgekml @hart My dude, the technology already exists *and is in use* in contrast to your belief, so do ships that run on a mix of wind, electricity and renewable fluids for classical motors when the wind is too low even for those modern sails. It's just not wanted for economical reasons.Flettner rotor:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotor_shipPurely electric:https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/may/02/hull-096-worlds-largest-electric-ship-battery-power-launchedCombustion (Synth. @gcvsa @hart ships have crossed oceans with renewable wind energy for centuries.... I see no contradiction 😉

@matclab @hart Name one wind-powered commercial cargo ship currently operating in the internationaloceangoing shipping trade. Name one. Name one that carries any significant amount of cargo. Name just one, fool.My comments have really turned out the idiots, haven’t they.

@gcvsa @matclab @hart The "Pyxis Ocean".Others like the Airbus container vessel or the Ariane 6 transport ship aren't part of the public trade network technically, they do however proof the tech works. The problem isn't the tech, it's bad economical policies and a fucked up financial system incentivising value extraction.
