There are 75,000 public school teachers in NYC. You can see the pay-scale here:https://www.uft.org/your-rights/salary/doe-and-city-salary-schedules/teacher-salary-scheduleIt tops out at 150k But those are people with decades of experience. The average is half that at 75k meaning half make less about half make more than that. To earn 300K I think one would need to be at the top of the scale AND teach a beast of a summer course load. 104 teachers managed to do it. Anyone want to be mad about it?

@futurebird aren't all the top salaries the 'coaches'? At least that's my impression of US schools.

@futurebird What the hell does "64 on LI among 105" mean? Is that a capital I or lower case of L after the capital L? Is that an acronym that means something?

@pewnack LI is "Long Island" it's this... long island next to NYC full of... people. Many are perfectly fine. It wishes it could be a normal suburb of a city, but it's not. We have a RR that goes out there to pick them up and bring them in for their jobs.

@futurebird Here's what gets me. They always ask questions like "Why should an educator make over $100k/y?"And 'educator' can really be replaced with any profession or vocation as desired. Whatever point they're trying to make is gross, because it always sounds like certain professions or vocations don't 'deserve' to receive a decent, liveable income. But they never ask "Why should a CEO make tens of millions?" For some reason that's just accepted and par for the course. As far as I am concerned, an educator sets our children up for their future. We can't pay them enough to ensure we get passionate people who are good at it. And while we're at it, fund schools properly.

@futurebird This relates to an argument my brother and I keep returning to: What level of annual income can we all agree is, basically by definition, "rich".I say any individual earning $100k/year is undeniably "rich". The brother disagrees.Of course cost of living varies by region, etc. but I stand by it. Someone earning 100k = 2.5X median income is, by definition, rich.

OK some conservative editor at newsday has commanded the newsroom to try their best to make "we hate public employees, they have decent wages and healthcare" their new theme. They ran this story right after the misleading one about "educators" (superintendents) that make "$300G"Now it's LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) ... LIRR did have an overtime corruption problem a decade ago. But this new stuff is totally manufactured.
