OK, here's a question for #UK #boaters, especially those in #narrowboats: what is the best time of year (preferably "off-season) to take a narrowboat in the canals? I'm interested in doing a trip at least two weeks long and I'm trying to do it when it's not high season. My main concerns are weather. I'm thinking maybe September or October 2026?Also looking for one or two people willing to share the trip with me.

@pjakobs @cruisingthecut I'll be honest with you: I've been seriously considering taking a year off, renting out my house, and living on a narrow boat in the UK. I've actually been thinking of a lot of escape plans recently. I'm just not ready to completely let go of the pretty cozy set up I've got right now.🤷🏼♀️

@mlanger I learned about narrowboating from the videos of @cruisingthecut and it seemed like a very slowed down thing to do while at the same time travellin in some comfort and style. Wouldn't mind trying it myself, and also the canals in France. You can go from Nord Pas de Calais throughout the country all the way to the med.

@pjakobs @cruisingthecut What I really should do is find something like that downunder so I can make my winters count. Any voters in #Australia or #NZ have some insight to that? Living aboard boat in your summer and just cruising around? And no, I'm not really interested in ocean going. #boating

@mlangerI don't think there's a large liveaboard culture in NZ, I guess hauraki gulf and the Marlborough Sounds would be lovely, but the waters around the islands can be treacherous. I have a friend in Hastings who is part of the local sailing community. His father has a 50ft+ aluminium boat he used to take to Rarotonga. I always thought that sounds like a pretty cool trip. Tim told me that he is looking at crewing from Northern Australia to east timor next Feb or so @cruisingthecut

@pjakobs @mlanger @cruisingthecut I've noticed a lot of houseboats down Mildura way. It's a pretty popular holiday for many of us out this way. Definitely underutilised though.
