Once again I'm getting curious about encaustic painting... such a not so well known, but tempting method of making art... anyone on here do it?

@futurebird I have a friend who does but she's not on here; I'll hope you find some mastoperson to help you but if not I could put you in touch with her.

@futurebird It feels to me like advanced crayons in a good way. I enjoy it.

@stevegis_ssg I don't want you to go to that much trouble. I was just hoping to follow some people who worked in this medium. I'm fascinated by the way it can render texture, and translucent layers... and by the way that it lasts for such a long time without changing much at all. Oil paint has a reputation for being "timeless" but encaustic painting is the OG.

@stevegis_ssg The downside? It looks rather messy. I'd need to devote a little corner to having wax dripping on everything... probably buy a floor mat or something.

@futurebird My cousin used to do it on a very large scale. It’s a great look done well. I have only played with cold wax medium with oils which can give a similar look.

@futurebird I first came across encaustic paintings by Emil Bisttram. A Taos artist. I think I read that he would do one small one each day.

@donlamb_1 Nice!I discovered it from the old Roman art, I had to know how they made the colors last for such a long time. It's remarkable.
