@futurebird I’m a relatively tallish person with short arms! I don’t like high stuff bc I can’t reach, and don’t like low stuff bc I have to bend over. I need everything in the middle.

@futurebird My cousin used to do it on a very large scale. It’s a great look done well. I have only played with cold wax medium with oils which can give a similar look.

@futurebird if I could redo my own kitchen, I’d do a small convection air/fryer toaster oven, a hot plate induction top, and rice/slow cooker/pressurecooker. Keep my microwave. Everything portable. I’d love a small counter dishwasher too.Small fridges suck bc they are low & they fill up fast with condiments in my house! I’d like tallish & not too deep. My ideal fridge would have lazy Susan shelving. I want a bigger fridge & esp. freezer to prepare, store, & buy more at cheaper prices.

@futurebird I think the main thing is that you like it. I think if you have style, you can make almost anything ‘off trend’ work and look really bespoke. Trends are the opposite of style to me.

@futurebird @lapis I think it is partly due to landlords & when it comes to anything creative, people are very risk averse. My mom & sister are interior designers & my dad & grandfather were commercial landlords who with the young architect they hired, pioneered industrial lofts in early 60s. Part of that revolution in design included exposed brick, exposed beams, exposed pipes. It saved a lot of money, but was architecturally interesting and very daring & unique at the time.

@futurebird and the fire alarms didn’t work either. I heard there was insulation that was styrofoam or something, and highly flammable as well. It’s so awful. Reminded me of the Grenfell fire. Too many lax codes or poor enforcement and no support for tenants in order to help developers and landlords profit. It’s criminal. Murderous. And they should be charged with extreme negligence. So many people without homes now.

I think this series with emergency blankets is about navigating present times, the choices & struggles we must take, or the responsibilities & temptations we refuse or resist. What we let grow, heal. The consequences. Do safe places even exist? Certainly not for women, trans...But not anyone really. I keep doing work about migration, seeking a place to grow. Heal. Reach our potential. But community & connection is broken, people getting uprooted by apathy, man made climatechange, hate, greed.

It makes me think of Trumps ‘golden age’ very ironically. These blankets are iconic in photos of people fleeing war, climate change & disasters, hate, poverty, tyranny. I think of them as fools gold purchased by MAGA, republicans & every spineless Democrat in office serving every billionaire, pedophile & warmonger instead of the people, these blankets are such a temporary thing against all we face & depend on. All to choose temporary sadistic pleasures of dominance, rather than an eternal love.

@futurebird Most will let the entire world burn, destroy the future for their children, rather than acknowledge that they have to change or do the work by facing reality. Apathy and ego tells them whatever they need to not have to do or change a thing & carry on as usual. They refuse to live in reality or face the truth. Ignorance is bliss to them. I think these apathetic folks are the majority & it’s time they were antagonized more.
