The hardest problem in computer science is remembering where you put the correct USB cable

@ricci for me, it is ethernet cables and transceivers

@dan I preferred when Ethernet was just all RJ45 and maybe make sure there were enough twists per meter

@ricci @dan My first intro to the ethernet was on DEC equipment with thick coax cables, marked where a vampire tap could be squeezed on.

@ricci for me it was writing a proof of where the correct USB cable can be

@ricci it's in the enormous bin of cables back in the corner, probably tangled up with the old scsi ribbons .

@ricci @dan 10base2 was inarguably easier to deal with, but you know, slooooow

@ricci @dan although there was a kind of cosmic simplicity about routing 10base5 and just using vampiric drop points where you needed, but it was too pricey for me.

@CryogenicIce9 @dan there is a bunch of that stuff still in the ceilings in our department and under our machine room's raised floor

@ricci @CryogenicIce9 I'm surprised I haven't found any in our machine room yet!

@ricci now I have so many types of transceivers, some of them so obscure that when I tried to order more the manufacturer didn't even know that they had ever made them
