@bill88t I don't blame GNOME for any of that drama. We live in a world where:X11 is pretty bad.Wayland is also pretty bad, in different ways, but probably marginally better.I consider Wayland a huge missed opportunity to actually fix the problems with X11, but that's a much longer discussion (and you'll get the really long version if you read the Arcan blog, rather than anything I'd want to write. Or you could just look at Arcan itself, because it's pretty close to the solution I'd propose). Some of the worst people decided that they wanted to 'fork' X11. It might be possible to evolve X11 to a state where it's actually solving the right problems but these people are definitely not doing that, they're just creating a hate parade. I sympathise with all of the people having to deal with them.

@david_chisnall @bill88t https://www.divergent-desktop.org/blog/2020/10/29/improving-x/ I had a 'less neighbourly' one queued up and PoCed ever since, as there is another middle ground to be had.
