i've been using linux for almost 20 years and is still dont understand what the difference is between the ui toolkit and the window manager and the session manager and the desktop environment and the windowing system and the compositor and the display manager. like im pretty sure i wanted to change a setting once and it only changed it for gnome applications. or gtk. or qt. or something. its a modular system i suppose. in the same way that salad is modular

at this stage i dont care what the hell the operating system even is or does. i just want it to have only one way of doing stuff. it sucks that us "one way of doing stuff"-likers are pretty much only served by the Megacorporations of Terror. if youre someone who's like "yeah i dont want to pay the Megacorporations of Terror any more money" then everyone's like "Great!! you can try out the Salad Computer instead. it's Free - and there's so many different ingredients in there to learn about!"

@shironeko as i said in the first sentence, i dont care anymore!!! it doesnt even have to be good. everyone can complain about it endlessly because its bad - but at least everyone will know what everyone else is talking about

@jk just accept your computer for what it is and stop messing with it then. if it's broken it's broken.

@jk @shironeko only the threats of immiseration provided by capitalism can force programmers to finish the new way and kill the old way of doing things. if programmers are left to sail free across the sea of code, ways of doing things only multiply.
