@billbennett Spread the word, 5G will keep the cookers out.

@juliaclement Funny you should mention that. I specifically asked CRL Ltd if they had heard anything from 5G protestors about the project. There hasn't been a single word.

@billbennett> I specifically asked CRL Ltd if they had heard anything from 5G protestors about the project. There hasn't been a single wordI haven't heard it mentioned in ominous tones for quite a while. Maybe people are finally catching on that it's probably no more dangerous than 4G or 3G.We can't definitely rule out that ambient microwaves might have subtle health effects. Especially in cities where dozens of uses of EM spectrum overlap. But the evidence isn't strong.@juliaclement

@strypey @juliaclement There are still frequent attacks on towers. Mobile network radio frequencies are unambiguously safe. Microwaves can heat things up, but you need to stand in front of a transmitter (or an unshielded microwave oven) for that.

@billbennett> Mobile network radio frequencies are unambiguously safeThis is the industry position. As with the biotech industry claims about GE. It's a journalist's role to question 'this is fine' dogma from industries and probe it's truth, not parrot it uncritically. There is a group of scientifists who've raised concerns about the potential for *subtle*, cumulative effects that only show up as health problems long term. Their evidence is not strong (so far) but it's there.@juliaclement

@strypey @billbennett I thought 4G & 5G cellular basically used the same frequencies and the difference was in the algorithms used and moving processing into the cell towers. This is different to the WIFI situation where 2.4G & 5G are on very different frequencies,Have I been misinformed?

@juliaclement> the difference was in the algorithms used and moving processing into the cell towersIt's been a while since I read up on this, and @billbennett may correct me here. But from memory, 5G uses smaller towers, and more of them, and to do that I believe it uses a slightly higher frequency range. To be clear, I'm not saying the weak evidence for health effects of EMGs are from 5G in particular. It's a longstanding concern.
