>on-device AI added as an about:addons tab About time. I don't like LLMs running on my machine without my consent, but Firefox is probably handling its inclusion the best.

@slopsec WebKitGTK is ready to go, Servo tagged their first release a week and a half ago. Ladybird is due a development update today.

Ladybird from what I've heard is far more along in development and Servo has been touched by wokezilla before eventually being curated by another group.@thatbrickster@shitposter.world

@slopsec Mozilla's main contribution was funding work on Layout 2013, which has since been removed from Servo. I would consider the project 'untainted' as it has not been influenced by Mozilla for years.

From what I recall though, they've been working on it as late as 2018 with various forks for VR and so on.@thatbrickster@shitposter.world

@slopsec Mozilla cut their forks along with the layoffs. The only things Mozilla cares about is advertising and AI.

@thatbrickster @slopsec I like Gnome Web but I wish it was at least as performant as firefox and that its video decode wasn't too taxing on the gpu. I'd move from chrome to it in a heartbeat. Also, Kagi's gonna bring their Orion browser to linux and they are using webkitgtk and have shown a gtk4 (libadwaita) UI already

@mischievoustomato I was made aware of Orion during my three-month Kagi trial and intend to try it out. WebKitGTK, via GStreamer, has had GPU decode for a while but doesn't seem to do it as efficiently as Firefox or Chromium. A bug I've seen suggests the jank's on the WebKit side.@slopsec

@thatbrickster @slopsec yeah definitely, and I know because Totem, Sushi (gnome previewer) and Showtime (new gnome video app) all have super low 3d *and* decode engine usage, same tier or better than mpv, while WebkitGTK would make my iGPU behave as if it was running a game.

@thatbrickster Local tiny models are fine imo, like for basic translation and name suggestions.
