I shouldn't need 6GB of VRAM to run it on low settings (medium preferred). An RTX 2080 being required for 1080p isn't my cup of tea either.

@ElDeadKennedy I recently acquired a PS3 from the local outdoor tip. It was last used in 2021 and had saves from classic CoD and GTAV (no FIFA, surprisingly). First things I did after letting it adjust to being indoors again was install CFW and relish the fact the PS3 I had to dispose of had been avenged. I may need to open it and clean out dust that's built up from being in storage, and replace the thermal paste to keep it running cool (fans run at 24% when in XMB, not checked in-game). Apart from that, perhaps I can return to the backlog of games I missed out on in secondary school.

@rain Microsoft said something similar when announcing the Series X, calling it a continuation of the One. I don't mind some cross-gen releases as it saves the immediate urge of needing a $549+ console to play new releases, but I know there's a point where new releases shouldn't be so they can exploit everything the latest hardware has to offer.I think MS did strike a good balance between supporting the One (X, mainly) and the Series, although I wasn't a fan of the Series S having less RAM than the One X. It was also laid out in a way that made access a choice between 'fast' and 'slow' memory.As for the PS5, I've been critical of its launch. From having no games of its own for the longest time, to flawed hardware that would cook itself under stress (90C VRAM on the launch model), to the Harry Hill oversized collar design. Despite all that, it continues to outsell Xbox consoles at least 3:1, and will likely outlive the Xbox as a platform given what came out towards the end of last year about future plans. Game Pass has lost most of its allure and upcoming hardware will allow third-party game launchers, like PC already does. I digress.I don't think we've seen this 'gen' hit its stride yet. The fatigue from AAA releases is making sure it never does. As for hardware, most indie titles run on computers people already own. Why pay more for diminishing returns?

@coolboymew MS once called them AAAA studios where throwing more money at them would make for better outcomes. How wrong they were.Before I went down the PS4 rabbit hole I held on to the belief they were glorified PCs. I bit the bullet after enjoying what the Vita was achieving as an underdog. I bet wrong in the end as I played on my One X more after I got one in 2021, despite having more games on the PS4. I also learned in that time I was more of a 'last gen' guy since games I wanted to play became dirt cheap on the 360. Since it had everything that was ever going to be made for it, there was no FOMO. It would've saved me a lot of money had I have found out sooner.I still own a jailbroken PS4 Pro and briefly had a dev console sold as a 'broken' unit. Someone had reached out and offered to buy it from me, which I agreed to. Apparently it was a stolen console and was banned from using PSN, and its developer functionality.I don't see myself selling my PS3 or PS4 in the short term. My Switch (vulnerable bootrom) would need to go to a good home. My jailbroken Vita would've gone to my wife, she used to play it when out and about, but she's since found new ways to spend her idle time.@rain
