It seems that #BigTech has decided to make October the month of promoting #selfhosting.

@fox @sesivany Apparently there was another big cloud service outage today. Azure, this time, I think. Then there was AWS US-East going down last week.

@bruce @sesivany oh, I thiugh it was gonna be the slow death of open source software (e.g. minio and xorg)

@fox @sesivany I haven't heard of minio, but it's okay if xorg slowly dies out. It's had a good run, but it's old and has severe issues. I don't think it'll ever be truly dead, though. There are several niche applications that will keep it alive, if only in a sort of maintenance mode.

@fox @sesivany Just looked up minio. I have no opinions about that project, as I don't require S3 compatible storage.

@bruce @sesivany I am not talking of the slow decay of ancient software, I'm talking about the intentional destruction of it(or in minios case the destruction of its open source origins) https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver/blob/master/HISTORY.mdhttps://blocksandfiles.com/2025/06/19/minio-removes-management-features-from-basic-community-edition-object-storage-code/

@fox @bruce @sesivany thanks for sources, I was wondering, what is currently happening with minio.
