@fox @sesivany Apparently there was another big cloud service outage today. Azure, this time, I think. Then there was AWS US-East going down last week.

@fox @sesivany I haven't heard of minio, but it's okay if xorg slowly dies out. It's had a good run, but it's old and has severe issues. I don't think it'll ever be truly dead, though. There are several niche applications that will keep it alive, if only in a sort of maintenance mode.

@fox @sesivany Just looked up minio. I have no opinions about that project, as I don't require S3 compatible storage.

@futurebird @TeflonTrout @3janeTA The first question to ask when trying to find hidden items is "how tall is the person who hid this?"

@stunder @atomicpoet @loops Since loops uses ActivityPub, you can follow loops accounts directly from your mastodon account. Of course, if you like loops and want a loops account, you should do that, too.

@Nonilex Sign language services would improve his public image, which I suppose is an intrusion of a sort.

@futurebird Not only is she guilty, she is proud of it. Not only would she do it again, she would boast about it and show you the result.

@vkc Come to think of it, right click is redundant, too. We should go full Apple and just have one button mice, and use the alt key for everything. People love that.

@aral @dansup In collaboration with the NYT, or at least some of their podcasters. My hopes for the sporkiverse are abysmal. I will be happy to be wrong.

@aral @dansup Anyway, I listened to the podcast where they describe setting up the instance and I was appalled.Search Engine: The Fediverse Experiment https://traffic.megaphone.fm/CAD9930591890.mp3?updated=1767911887

@futurebird This is all true. But I also try not to get too worked up when I find out others have been talking about me behind my back, provided it's not too outrageously malicious. I figure people do that all the time about everybody and it's not worth worrying over.

@dennmans @aral @dansup Yeah, that part is offensive, but expected. It was the glorification of AI that did it for me. They claim to have used Claude to set up the instance, including purchasing the domain name.

@aral @dennmans @dansup Yes, it was Claude. It kind of jumped out at me and I very nearly stopped the podcast right there. I probably should have, because it didn't get better after that.

@xkcd Fun sailing fact: a yawl is not determined by the size of the mizzen, but by its placement. If the mizzen is aft of the rudder post, it's a yawl. Otherwise it's a ketch. Technically, the sail could be larger and it would still be a yawl. However, it would also make the vessel unmanageable.

@futurebird @catmisgivings That seems unlikely given how much shrimp we eat today. It's a lot.
