There are entire youTube channels that run on people discovering that carpeted bathrooms exist and you can find photos of them in real estate listings. And yet every single time I see another one I'm just as shocked and perplexed as the first time.

@futurebird I once went to an open house and discovered a bathroom that was not only carpeted but wallpapered in purple velvet!

@futurebird I bought a house in Scotland and the bathroom had a neon-green fluffy carpet in it, which I ripped out immediately.

@futurebird @dan free from breathing whatever grows in high pile carpeting in moist environment? Sigh. I guess not.

@futurebird So, carpeted bathrooms are real?? I thought that was just something they told to children to scare them silly... LOL.

@futurebird i used to rent a room in one of those houses and the carpet went right up to the porcelain of the toilet. It was so disgusting

@futurebird My family remodeled a house when I was in middle school (mid 90s). I had to _remove_ the carpet from one. AND the pad underneath. Just thinking about it makes me want to take 3 consecutive showers. That wasnt the worst though. I was tasked with removing the popcorn ceiling using a flat hoe. I found the smoking spot in the garage when it caught on the part that was fused to the drywall with tar. Pulled the tool out my hands and I tripped and landed on my butt.

@futurebird When I was a kid my family rented a vacation home (technically half of a duplex) that had a carpeted bathroom. And a carpeted kitchen. It had been very throughly decorated in the 1970s and never updated. We stayed there a for week or two several years running, and the low-key ickiness of stepping out of the shower onto electric blue carpet (ultra-short pile, padding underneath) never waned.

@futurebird i think every 3rd estate sale I went to in Reno was a house with that sort of horror. Idk why it was so popular there, but it was.

@futurebird I had one as a child and it was lovely. I guess it helped that it was only AFAB people using that bathroom, so no piss accident issue? Also no issue with mould of anything like people are concerned about in the thread. I guess the room was just well ventilated. It was honestly just really nice. Uncarpeted bathrooms feel cold and stark to me.

@futurebird I was told yesterday that someone in our town recently tried to get fitted carpets in their bathroom, but couldn't find any contractor willing to do it…It's 2025! Why would anyone want this?! Buy some slippers!

@futurebird Brought up in a house with a carpeted bathroom, so it feels natural to me.Haven’t seen one in many a year though, for all the obvious reasons.

@futurebird When we first moved to Las Vegas, we rented an extremely cheap apartment near Chinatown that had a SHAG carpeted bathroom! It stunk so bad that I tore it out and replaced it with a scrap of new industrial carpet I purchased. I wanted to do laminate tile or something less disgusting but I was afraid they'd notice and not return our security deposit.
