       Pride and Prejudice language query, please boost for reach. 🙂My copy has an endnote saying that “came upon the town” is a euphemism for prostitution.Not one I’ve heard of before, so I thought I’d look it up.It’s not in Brewers, and every single reference I’ve found so far on the Internet is a note on Pride and Prejudice saying “This is a euphemism for prostitution” with no source.I know search is degraded now, but can anyone give me a source or some non-P&P references?#academia #austen
