@YKantRachelRead @Steve fun piece of personal lore -- the very first trans person i ever met irl was a gay trans man that tried to convince me to stop HRT within 5 minutes of speaking to them. :xf_creatura:

@rowb1t @YKantRachelRead What’s really weird is I see a lot of trans masc people trying to convince other trans masc people that HRT is dangerous. There’s a significant anti-diy sentiment in the trans masc community.

@dangerdyke @YKantRachelRead @rowb1t I feel like there are two senses here: 1) trans women are reckless - a trope of male socialization and 2) Testosterone is a powerful and dangerous hormone that require medical supervision - ideas that come out of terf bioessentialism and mansophere obsession with T creating “manhood’

@dangerdyke @YKantRachelRead @rowb1t There are some trans masc folks who use androgel alone for HRT - in fact there are several home brewers who use the method. However, most trans men use injectable testosterone - in ethers similar to estradiol. Both estrogen and testosterone are needed in the body for it to function properly, and both cis and trans women will use androgel for health and sexual reasons - just as they will use estrogen for the same reasons.

@rowb1t @Steve @dangerdyke @YKantRachelRead it can be used for FTM HRT, just like estrogen gel can be used for MTF HRT, the dose can be high enough, it's generally not ideal, and has the same drawbacks as estrogen gel vs injections, so, typically injections are preferable, and with T needing higher amounts for correct blood levels you start running into issues with solubility and stuff when making high enough concentration T gel to use as a main source of T for FTM HRT

@Steve @dangerdyke @YKantRachelRead @rowb1t I mean, high T ***does*** have more negative effects than high E, too high T can cause androgenic alopecia and such when taken without blood testing, etc, though it also helps you get more muscular if you're into that so y'knowhigh T levels along with a 5-alpha reducterase blocker like dutasteride or finasteride is good after puberty as like a simple/starter gym PED stack, though note that the DHT blocking while it saves you from hair loss and such, would also slow/block the development of secondary sexual charectaristics (like more body hair and deep voice and such) during androgenic puberty, or the start of a FTM transition
