       @smallcircles@social.coop I don't think the F in FOSS is the thing you're looking for. The title of the article you linked also does not seem to include the F. This is about open source, not free software. Open source is the corporate bootlicker variant, where you just publish the source code under a license which allows a company to take it and create proprietary software with it.Free software intends to make software freedom available to all, using viral licenses which extend the four freedoms to everyone, at all times. If the companies were forced to use free software, they'd be required to publish their source code as well, for the betterment of everyone in society. We could all learn and improve, rather than simply sponsor major corporations to fuck us all over.There's a big difference between free software and open source, and murkying the waters as your post attempts is only benefiting the companies that you complain about.

       @tyil perhaps. On the reasoning that copyleft provides sufficient protection. Everything before the code exists is there for grabs. The R&D, the insights, the experimental research. It is a low-fruit garden of Eden. No need for companies to do any of that. Just do the product dev. Add AI in the mix and everything is gobbled up regardless of license. I am a long-time fan and promotor of FOSS. FOSS the software, but also FOSS the struggling beautiful people, who continue to walk away with nothing.

       @smallcircles@social.coop Add AI in the mix and everything is gobbled up regardless of license.That's a failing of the copyright system. A system that is abused due to blatant corruption of those who are supposed to uphold it. Apart from lynching the people responsible and putting better people in their place, I don't think you can do much against it.But with proper enforcement of the rules for everybody, free software is the only functional tool we have, not open source.
