       What does it look like if I upload a short MP4 with no sound? Does Mastodon think it's a "GIF"? Will it loop..?It thinks GIFs are video and converts them to MP4. Hmmm.. 🤔 From the October 2025 Newsletter.  A fly-around the "Glory to the Conquerors of Space" monument set. Similar to a shot in the episode now, but not identical. Not sure we ultimately did this set justice.

       Yeah. Looks like it thinks it's a GIF and it loops. This is good to know.I can save the trouble converting stuff to animated GIFs, I guess.

       @TerryHancock Yes, this GIF rule is a bit cryptic. If you want to get the video control and no loop, you can use FFmpeg command to add a silent audio to video:`ffmpeg -f lavfi -i anullsrc=channel_layout=stereo:sample_rate=44100 -i input.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a aac -shortest output.mp4`I do it all the time, because Krita output timelapses without audio and I don't want to post them as GIF with autoplay and loop. 😔

       @davidrevoy Yeah. I'm trying to do the opposite. :raccoon_cool: Seems like a low-effort way to make some promo "GIFs"I'm still bothered by them not just supporting actual GIFs. But I suppose the load on the server is less this way?I think I have it worked out now.
