Someone recently posted about this German state trying to switch over from windows to open source libre office and failing... With no sauce. Here's sauce and that was old news, and they've since succeeded. It has been underway for some time, but it is suspect our Fearless Leader may have been inducement to get the job done quick. So he's good for something, for someone, after all. https://www.theregister.com/2025/10/15/schleswig_holstein_open_source/

@tomjennings Also Austria‘s armed forces would like to have some control over their software and wave goodbye to MS Office.https://www.heise.de/en/news/Austria-s-armed-forces-switch-to-LibreOffice-10660761.html

@Linkshaender I imagine too now that one state has done this, future efforts are more likely to be tried and to be successful.

@tomjennings @Linkshaender the successful changeover also appears to include critical public services including the criminal justice system, Police and other emergency services, and the press release clearly describes what software was used - other than the planned VOIP telephone system, although its possible that isn't yet built (although it would be good to know what they have planned, I'm always on the lookout for VOIP telephone systems that haven't suffered USA corporate enshittification (even the partly FOSS ones seem to be all plagued by it)https://www.schleswig-holstein.de/DE/landesregierung/ministerien-behoerden/I/_startseite/Artikel2025/IV/251006_ox-umstellung-abschluss
