I need a small scale hot air (solder/desolder) station, for occasional board repair. Are the Aoyue devices any good? They've at least been around for a long time. This is the sort of scale of things I'm thinking about. https://www.sra-shops.com/pub/media/docs/srasolder/datasheet/tds-ao888a.pdfRemove errant chips, stick another one on. Just packages with pins; I'm intentionally not building with ball grid etc, I make stuff to be repairable.Suggestions welcome! I'm not afraid of buying used. Recommendations on stuff to avoid appreciated too.

@tomjennings I have an Aoyue desoldering pump - it's decent. I'm not very good with it, but that's more me than anything else.(if you wanted a desoldering pump, I'm more than happy to give you this one, since I bought a Hakko)

@robdaemon Ahh thanks! That's good to know! I bought a similar Aoyue machine for a lab at least 15 years ago -- exact same artwork on the front, very old fashioned and chinese-export. To me that reads so much different today. Thanks for the offer the the desolder pump! I don't need one now, though, but I apprecaite it.

@tomjennings no problem :) Since I'm moving back to California, I'm more than happy to give away some of this duplicate stuff to anyone who would use it(and that goes for anyone who reads this)

@lmorchard Brands make me ill. The chinese export stuff, like the Aoyue, have been around so long that they are far more reliable as far as quality than most of the "american" brands now held by private equity or holding corps. The chinese things I have that seemed half-decent, turn out to be long lasting, even when the aesthetics are less than top-notch.

@tomjennings I've used the originals that these copy and they're quite nice. Swapping out the nozzles is a pita on ours but the one lasted 10 years of almost daily usage before dying and another is at about 15.

@smellsofbikes The Aoyue 888 sells for 110US on digikey, the same on feePay. I'm likely to buy one from Digikey. 7 bucks shipping.I just bought it. That was quick!
