Another political drama, but that is not what I want to comment.I am more of a general sceptic about all those Linux/(implicitly, BSD)-purposed PC and laptop builds. At my previous job, which was for the state, the e-waste room was quite stuffed with good thinkpads and macbooks. Not claiming that they go to the landfills dirrectly then, but they go somewhere. I don't understand why the refurbished corporate electronics market is so poor in the EU.Ah, and I lived in university cities for many years. Can't say that Dreamspark or whatever the name is and the discounts on brand-new electronics match the official eco narrative.

@contaminase > Not claiming that they go to the landfills dirrectly then, but they go somewhere. I don't understand why the refurbished corporate electronics market is so poor in the EUI suppose that these electronics went to the other countries, outside of EU. E.g. a lot of firms in the Saint-Petersburg, before 2022, simply bought these "e-waste" laptops from EU, clean and/or refubrish them and sell to the locals for the cheap price. My #Thinkpad X220 is directly this kind of "e-waste" — previous owner from Europe used it and looks like the laptop got smashed to the lid, so the screen got two areas, brighter than other ares (see the photo). So, after that it became the #ewaste , the small firm in SaintP bought it, cleaned from dust and sold me for a reasonable price: ≈19000 ₽ (near 380 $).And I'm still using this laptop for now, lol :drgn_aww: Also I heard one story from a Russian emigrant, who worked for some time in the Polish recycling facility. He agreed with the management and furnished the apartment with good appliances almost for 0 złoty — he repaired the soldering station and the multimeter from e-waste container, when repaired the phone, laptop, TV, coffee machine, etc from the same container and used it in his apartments😃#recycling #refubrishing

@wyatt @evgandr Oh lol. Pals, I have a spot on my ex-ex-work-issued x260, and had it there from the start. The fact is, Lenovo installs obligatory poopy screens, this is the certificate of authenticity.
