At some point I intend to bring up a ward and randy CBBS instance, ten figure out how t connect the serial port to the internet. It will be one user at a time, CBBS will run on a Friendly fZ80 box, probably under MP/M.There's plenty of source around, I have a copy made close to 40 years ago, so it's got none of the wiseguy comments and meta shit most of the current copies have. It's just old, bad code ;-)But for a taste of the 1970s, read some of this CBBS "cookbook" stuff, how if you have another 2048 bytes of RAM you can have this feature... and a moderate machine can contain 300 messages! Those two conjured up fundamental concepts with a machine so barbaric and bare bones it wouldn't be rexognized as a general purpose computer today. (And a 2 MHz 8080 is probably 100 or 1000 times faster than EDSAC.)https://github.com/deltecent/cbbs-350/blob/master/CBBSASM.3-5/COOKBOOK.DOC

@tomjennings We have had a good experience in bringing a BBS back online with a Moxa RS232-Ethernet-“gateway”. If you want to restrict “hammering” connections, then you’d go for a small BSD/Linux box with RS232 as a gateway or reverse-IMP :)

@3rz Thanks for the report. I'll probably cobble up a Arduino thing to buffer desktop to cp/m, that part is simple. The net to serial device is harder. It will be one line so I need to generate " line is busy", probably a web page.

@tomjennings Our BBS software could do 1 line at a time only, too. That works with this boxes. You even get a ”RING“ signal for initiated telnet or ssh sessions, and you can limit these to 1.
