       @foone To write onto it, you need to tape down a hole of the drive first.But, bonus points: With a decent formatter like »fdformat«, »Hyperformat« or »PumpUp« you can get up to 20% more out of your flash drive. And if you interleave and spiralize the sectors, random access times, will be lower than without!https://archive.3rz.de/xx-DOS/fdformat-christoph-hochstaetter/https://archive.3rz.de/Atari-ST/3rz-sammlung/disk/pumpup15.ziphttps://archive.3rz.de/Atari-ST/3rz-sammlung/disk/hyperformat_3.2.9-kap08.lzh

       @m0xEE @flacs @kaia N-BASE-T, most likely RTL8157. Cheaper and much more energy efficient/cooler than 10GBase-T.

       @tomjennings @vga256 “One more time …“(There’s also Gemini. Not the LLM/"AI"-blob. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(protocol) which proposes a no-bullshit-but-still-encrypted “modern” Gopher, much closer to HTML+HTTP, though, has TLS)

       @tomjennings We found joy in watching Bob Spences’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DTpQ4Kk2wA – a well made introduction into APL from 1975 (no glass teletype, the real one), both in terms of presentation and content. It’s calm, yet interesting.Also the video’s making is interesting, if you’re into such things as camera technique, esp. for a college with not unlimited budget.#apl #retroprogramming #teletype

       @tomjennings We have had a good experience in bringing a BBS back online with a Moxa RS232-Ethernet-“gateway”. If you want to restrict “hammering” connections, then you’d go for a small BSD/Linux box with RS232 as a gateway or reverse-IMP :)

       @tomjennings Our BBS software could do 1 line at a time only, too. That works with this boxes. You even get a ”RING“ signal for initiated telnet or ssh sessions, and you can limit these to 1.

       @tomjennings @Rycaut We’d love to have a Friendly fZ80 in our space!In case of feedback:- Would be cool if your website has some old fashioned “Specs” section: Which ports, and what are the limits (RAM, storage, ports, port speed, hardware handshake? Ring signal? …)- Is there an option for multi-RS232, so that one can attach actually 2-3 devices. I’d love to connect a glass tube to it, but also want to connect it to our serial deviceserver for data exchange and for another login (telnet) port

       @tomjennings The most important question about USB floppy drives: is DD (double density, < 1 MB) format supported?Many USB floppy drives only support HD, and only HD (1.4 MB).
