Hi everyone! Glad you’re here on the Fediverse. I have a question for all the #castiron #cookware #cooking people:When you’re cleaning your cast iron frying pans what’s your preferred dishwasher setting?

… but how many volts? I need to calculate the wattage. Also 2A seems quite restrained for you. @vik

@futuresprogEven at 12V DC it electrolyses the crap off a treat.

@futuresprogEasy. Here's the gist of it. Very effective as long as you're ok re-seasoning the pan https://www.castironcollector.com/electrolysis.php

@futuresprog Hope you're joking! Never put mine near a dishwasher, or even detergent. 25 years old, and was just a cheap $20 briscoes job. Still fantastic for cooking, fully non-stick.

I’m impressed by how many people NEVER use soap. Often a wipe out with a paper towel is sufficient but NEVER using soap? Incredible. How do you get out the fresh fish smell or does that not matter on your pancakes the next day?@downbeatdan

@futuresprog @downbeatdan I never use soap on cast iron cookware either. Soap renders it useless. If I've used it to cook something smelly I'll run it under very hot water for a minute, and I can't say I've ever had a problem that hasn't resolved.

@leighelse @futuresprog @downbeatdan I'm the same - I have a couple cast iron pans (20-25yo) and never used soap on them. Use them daily, beautiful carbonised finish, no stick. Just clean with hot water and a brush.

@futuresprog The traditional ‘handwash in the sink’ setting 😅 it’s the one thing that doesn’t go near the dishwasher as the powder is too caustic.

Yep! I typically hand wash mine if it needs anything more involved than a wipe out with a paper towel. @akoaroha

@futuresprog> I typically hand wash mine if it needs anything more involved than a wipe out with a paper towelAha, it was a trick question! I usually handwash with hot water, dry on a low element and grease while still warm with a spray bottle I refill with cheap oil. I'll have to try your paper towel method sometime, when I've done something non-saucy. @akoaroha
