Jane Goodall has died. She was an inspiration and a role model for many of us interested in science, research and investigation of our world. https://wapo.st/3WmnTUU

@ricci @rebeccawb when I was a kid (literally in elementary school) she came and did a book signing in my home town, after a presentation about some of her work.It ended up being one of the real stand-out memories from my childhood. I liked science in school, but it was all very abstract, and if anyone was mentioned in science class at that point they'd been dead for at least a century. But here was this real live scientist! Doing new science! And cool science! (which I was also able to understand!)It made science feel real to me in a way that I don't think it would have seemed without that encounter, growing up in a town where seemingly most of the highly educated people worked in finance. (The book she signed is still in my mom's basement somewhere.)
