I'm going in a couple of hours to get this year's flu vaccination. I neglected a lot of important health stuff for many years because (among other reasons) of intense needle-phobia. I have lately adopted this advice, substituting "anxiety" for "cat".

@overholt you can do it! ✊ I’m also quite needlephobic but I’ve gotten a lot better at tanking it in the last few years.

@overholt I know it doesn’t actually help with a true phobia, but I am here to tell you that needles are much finer and less bothersome now than they were several years ago. Also, if you need to fight a cat, elbow-length leather gloves are a good idea.

@overholt I also have needle phobia. I have to look away and make up stories in my head as it happens. Also a universal blood donor with my type so if I don't give blood I feel tremendous guilt, so I have to face my phobia every time and get drained a bit.

@overholt I feel seen by this post.My needle phobia was terrible for years. I would still go for all the medical stuff, but spend the week beforehand extremely stressed and not sleeping. During the appointment I would get woozy and nauseous.Best thing I ever did was start telling the medical staff about it. Second best thing I did was take up yoga, because that taught me breathing and focus exercises that I still use to get through stuff.Good luck with your vaccination.

@cainmark You are a better person than I am. I struggle to get through enough of a blood draw for my A1C testing and I don’t even know what my blood type is.

@overholt Advice that could be taken out of context.

@overholt I dont know about that. Doing it because it's the right thing to do would be better than trying to avoid my own guilt.
