I'm seeing a lot of articles talking about how a lot of college grads are unemployed and how college isn't a guaranteed pathway to a career/job anymore (was it ever?), and the general opinion seems to be, well, I guess there's no point in going to college anymore!Which is mind-blowingly stupid. Spending some time in university isn't JUST a career on-ramp -- it's supposed to make you a more broad-minded, complete, and capable person -- and is most beneficial for folks disinclined to self-study.

@laemeur >it's supposed to make you a more broad-minded, complete, and capable person Hahahaha yeah no it doesn'tCollege/university is worth the costs if and only if you either specifically want to study something that's hard to self-study (eg, Sumerian cuneiform) or want to enter a field that's effectively closed to people without degrees (eg, medicine). Even then I'd strongly recommend sticking to cheap state schools; no amount of dubious "prestige" or "networking opportunity" is worth dealing with crippling student debt

@laemeur It's "supposed" to do all that, but nowadays it does that about as effectively as it gets you a guaranteed career.
