Not really dying to jump into the Twitter drama, but I did get commissioned to do this piece for The Hollywood Reporter this week. So ...here it is!Had a good time doing the Death-Star-with-rocket-nozzles twitter-bird design.#illustration #ElonMusk #twitter

Very happy to see all these new avatars and handles in the timelines, and the optimistic remarks about being liberated from the algorithm....Cynically expecting 99% of them to return to Twitter because they are addicted to engagement with the algorithm.

I got COVID for Christmas. :(All I wanted this Christmas was for no one in the house to be sick. My son has caught every single cold that has circulated at his elementary school this year and brought it home, so it's just been a miserable six or seven weeks around here. But things were looking good. Everyone was healthy at the start of the holiday break. And then......I let him go play at the neighbours' house. That's what I get for being a nice dad, I guess!

@lain Not in the States. I assume whoever called it "a hidden gem" was American? Blur never sold well here, but I loved those guys when I was a teenager.

Funny. I have used Chromium for years as my secondary browser after Firefox, and have really had no issues with it. But a couple weeks ago I had to install Google Chrome because the screen-sharing feature in Meet does not work in Chromium. EVER SINCE THEN, both Chrome AND Chromium are the crashiest, crappiest, CPU-hogginest pieces of software on my computer.

@textfiles Isn't Minter's alias "Yak", not "Ox"? Or did he use Ox in his early days?

Well, the SDF Matrix server is back online, but it's lookin' a little lonely over there right now, so I made a public room for rants: #rants:matrix.sdf.orgI don't even have anything to rant about -- I'm not a very ranty guy these days -- but I'm sure I can find something to get fired up about now and again.

Ah, somebody help me out, here. There was a Web game that I played a while back -- black and white artwork, you had to insert a probe into this alien artifact and explore the sort-of mind or memory construct that was contained in it to reveal the story about some aliens who came to earth and ...parked their space ship in the bay near some major city, as I recall? I think they referred to humans as "bright ones" or something like that. Ringing any bells?

It's funny to see people come here from birdsite and be like, "wow, it's hard to get followers, and engagement is so low!" Yeah! Welcome to Fedi! You don't come here to grow your audience, you come here to see what your art/nerd/weirdo community is getting up to.

Good lord, the illustration/art discourse on Threads is apparently 90% comprised of people bemoaning the fact that it's hard as hell to make money as an illustrator. I KNOW.I have a couple friends that I commiserate with about this from time to time, but why in the hell would I just want to read that all day every day on my social media feed?

Boy, I haven't been posting much art on here lately, have I?These are from a few months ago. I did the Castle Grayskull piece to try-out some new paints, and then I figured hey, since I've got a nice little BG painting, let's do a character cel to put over it! So Mer-Man there is a traditionally inked and painted cel.Fun! I should do more of these some time.#illustration #heman #mastersoftheuniverse #traditionalart

Here we go, @SDF comrades. Got the background done, although I'm not 100% sold on what's on the screens. Also, thanks to @peron for a couple of those bits of line art. Next on the to-do: character/terminal art for a few more characters. And yes, I think I need to get Milia in there, even though she's not a bridge operator. #illustration #macross #unix #vt52

Obviously I'm not a SUPER GENIUS like Elon Musk, but in my experience, efficiency comes from understanding and streamlining processes and procedures, not just... removing parts that look unnecessary or that you don't like.

I'm sure some of you know of it already, but https://wiby.me is a search engine that only indexes static HTML pages. And there's a "surprise me" link on the front page.Finding a lot of fun and interesting stuff with it!

This reciprocal tariffs thing is really inspiring me to change how I do business. I think that every time I go to a store from now on, I'm gonna tell the management, hey! I buy stuff from you ALL THE TIME, and you NEVER commission cartoons from me! Unfair! Until we balance our trade deficit, I'm just not going to be able to shop here anymore. Don't you bozos know that trade isn't a network of supply and demand gradients, it's about FAIRNESS?

I'm seeing a lot of articles talking about how a lot of college grads are unemployed and how college isn't a guaranteed pathway to a career/job anymore (was it ever?), and the general opinion seems to be, well, I guess there's no point in going to college anymore!Which is mind-blowingly stupid. Spending some time in university isn't JUST a career on-ramp -- it's supposed to make you a more broad-minded, complete, and capable person -- and is most beneficial for folks disinclined to self-study.

When I rebuilt my Web site four years ago, I was like, okay, I am going to stay on top of this! I am going to keep this current and upload new work!Four years later ...spending multiple days getting the site up-to-date.
