When you actually read the email thread of the introduction of Rust into Git

There are some legitimate complaints from PowerPC devs and maintainers of old architectures on Debian where rust currently doesn't work at least until gcc in rustc or rust frontend for gcc reach production ready

@BrodieOnLinux I wonder how long it would be acceptable to use an old Rust-free version of `git` for these use cases, assuming the Rust adoption continues into hard-to-avoid areas of the code base?

@jokeyrhyme That's why this is happening with 3.0, this is the next LTS

@BrodieOnLinux it is unfortunate that the only true viable choice for a rust compiler is LLVM, but to be fair, even modern POWER supports it well. These arch are dead ends, eventually they will no longer be taken into consideration.

@BrodieOnLinux Rust in Git makes a lot of sense to me; Rust in the Linux Kernel does not. In my opinion, Rust belongs in every userspace program, and no kernelspace code.

@BrodieOnLinux Rewrite git in Rust entirely. Any other scheme is madness at this point

@BrodieOnLinux Similar problems exist for operating systems that are not "mainstream enough" for the Rust developers to bother with.Apart from which, building a rust compiler literally takes more than 50 times the time of building a go compiler. It even takes longer than building LibreOffice. Now that means something.
