@BrodieOnLinux lots of new people learning that Bill Gates exists and hating him over the last couple of yearsshould we try to harness that to convert people away from Windows and Xbox? or do we not actually want to have those people in our community? conundrum :P

@BrodieOnLinux whilst most GNOME design decisions work well enough for my personal use case, I'm definitely keen for more strong competition in this space (opinionated batteries-included desktop environments)Perhaps COSMIC, XFCE, KDE and others can see enough (Wayland) polish to at least give users viable alternatives, that way GNOME's design won't have the massive impact it currently has (and maybe they'll reconsider)

@BrodieOnLinux I think commas are used to separate each generic parameter, e.g. `T: TraitBoundA, U: TraitBoundB + TraitBoundC`so, they can't use commas between trait bounds, hence `+`

@BrodieOnLinux not an expert, but I think some of the underlying Rust crates/libraries like https://crates.io/crates/wgpu are quite demanding and expect decent Vulkan implementations (I don't think the OpenGL support is stable yet, if it is it's only super recent) and reliable GPU driversDo VMs have those things?

@redezem @virtualwolf none of those complaints are about Agile: https://www.atlassian.com/agile/manifesto> Manifesto for Agile Software Development>> We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it.>> Through this work we have come to value:>> Individuals and interactions over processes and tools>> Working software over comprehensive documentation>> Customer collaboration over contract negotiation> > Responding to change over following a plan>> That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.Seems more like legitimate complaints about Scrum :🤷

@BrodieOnLinux > Truth is everything. But before you give it to another, ask yourself, are you giving them clarity, light and purpose? Or are you shifting a burden to someone who needs all their strength?- The Dragon Prince, S6E6This should be displayed above every text input box connected to the internet :)

@aral I'm feeling so disillusioned and disappointed with ProtonMail and MozillaAt least when I reluctantly recommend Google, I can list all their major sins and downsides, and there's no egg on my face when friends are bitten laterBut I won't be recommending ProtonMail or Mozilla anymore, and I'm already working to migrate away from their offerings immediately

@BrodieOnLinux I'm really hoping we're further along in the adoption of AccessKit or other best-practice accessibility framework for Wayland desktopsIt'd be nice to not leave a whole bunch of people behind, and it'd also be nice to not have another round of "Wayland hates blind people"

@BrodieOnLinux in terms of hype/engagement? SureBut Java's promise was amazing productivity via write-once-run-anywhere, and it failed to deliver on that promiseI wonder which promise Rust will fail to deliver?

@BrodieOnLinux corporations are so desperate to prove that it was definitely wise and correct to forget their eco-sustainability targets and light money on fire to train and host these modelsI'm not saying these have no purpose or utility, but I doubt any of what we've "gained" so far was worth the billions of dollars and climate harmsImagine being a billionaire and deciding that burning money like this was preferable to feeding the poor or curing the sick

@BrodieOnLinux even now, the metaverse required a specific investment in hardware before consumers could encounter itWhereas any device with an internet connection can be wired up to an LLM serviceSo, metaverse wins on avoid-ability But, LLMs do win on utility for e.g. accessibility and creativity But we also could have done neither :)

@BrodieOnLinux yeah, it reminds me of UAC on Windows, or even the GDPR cookie prompts I don't think it's meaningful to make the user choose every time, but I also don't want a centralised "developer knows best" approach either

@BrodieOnLinux honestly, I think I'd be okay with the SELinux approach of downloading a vetted policy pack from RedHat that enables what makes sense for known-good app versions and causes prompts for everything else

@BrodieOnLinux I wonder how long it would be acceptable to use an old Rust-free version of `git` for these use cases, assuming the Rust adoption continues into hard-to-avoid areas of the code base?
