       One summer around 1978 I got chicken pox. All I wanted was that pink calamine lotion for the itching. But my mother—then at the height of her health food fanaticism—consulted our nutritionist in Malibu, who advised her to smear crushed organic strawberries all over my body. Which, of course, did nothing except make me itchy AND sticky in the middle of a heatwave.This is how long I’ve known the people now controlling public health in America are fucking morons.
