Reason why preferred names are important: Me has a cis-het white man still don't get called by my name, John-Mark, at Drs appointments and other similar places. They like to drop the Mark and call me John, despite the hyphen, and John not being my name.

@encthenet Imagine having a simpler name like Greg and they spell it Grey. Idiocy is common. I don’t even want to get into my last name mangle.

@SlicerDicerAlso, how many older white men have preferred names, Bill instead of William. Dick instead of Richard. Jon instead of Jonathan. The list of those is quite long. This isn't even including the people who prefer to go by their middle name.
