       I spend a lot of my time in rural mining communities in Arizona. I'm surrounded by far right corporatist politics, environmental destruction and all the other horrors of terminal capitalism. Because of this I try to focus my time on mastodon on things that are interesting, beautiful and uplifting. But sometimes I get tired and grumpy. I'm going to start tagging those posts with #grumpy so you can filter them out more easily. ❤️

       @ipxfong how do you not give up finding interesting, beautiful, and uplifting things? I am at the point of unfollowing several accounts, or going away for a few weeks/months. It's embarrassing how long I hung on believing common interests and helpful posts, and questions for solving problems were common in the fediverse.I imagine my cortisol and dopamine are in dire condition.

       @cosullivan Part of it is numbness. It's a lot easier to ignore a miserable angry post online when you're used to having to interact socially with a dude wearing confederate flag shorts. Then, there's the recognition that amplifying or participating in someone's rage, even if that rage is totally justified, has zero positive effect. I keep my focus on things that do real good. Even so, there are plenty of days when I just want to take a hammer to my phone and wander out into the desert. ❤️

       @ipxfong i recognize that where attention goes energy flows. Check my post history, I don't boost ragebait. I don't contribute to the mess.If I am to keep focus on things that do real good, I will leave Mastodon. Very few read my posts anyway, despite the inflated follower count.

       @cosullivan I stick around because it's about the only place I get to hang out with the cool smart kids. But, I hear ya, I'm not always sure it's good for me. 😅
