Watching my BFF and her husband do the parenting thing where they phrase commands as questions to their young children and it's just killing me lmaoEvery single time it's like they earnestly believe that if they ask the question in a tone that sounds excited or enticing enough their kid will say yes and it will be easier than just telling him how it's going to be. "Do you want to ______ ?? 😀 😀 😀 "EVERY SINGLE TIME, he says no. And so every single time they try to convince him to say yes. That never works. So then they have to just tell him what to do/how it's going to be, and the kid probably gets more upset and defiant than if they had never made it sound like he had a choice in the first place.Watching other people parent is crazy. It's rapidly becoming more and more apparent why my kids have always just been generally well behaved and respectful. IDK I feel like this stuff is so simple.

@KittyTantrum Lmao!!!!!"Hey, son 😁 do you want to take out the traaaassshhh?? 😃"Yeah, because that'll definetly convince the kid to do something. Carrot and Stick, a very minor reward for completing assignments, and a very harsh punishment for not, the more trivial the task for the extreme of both punishments and limited the rewards. I figure if you take care of the little things (like not flushing the toilet or opening a bottle of water, taking a single sip, and then wasting the rest) you only ever have to worry about the rare and unusual "big problem"

@Largo It's wild, they do it at mealtimes too."Do you want a sandwich? 😀""NO. I want (something else)!""You're going to have a sandwich. I'm making you a sandwich."*cue meltdown that probably would never have happened if they just put a sandwich in front of the child in the first place*They have FIVE CHILDREN (oldest is 14) and haven't figured out that this approach never makes anything easier or better.
