I'm a Highlander, get me out of here. Some observations on a recent trip to the Central Belt. Please don't be offended if you live in a city, particularly Glasgow. It is just my opinion on travelling through some parts of a (the) city.https://fitheach.scot/life/im-a-highlander#Highlands #Scotland #Glasgow

@fitheach I get it those rundown suburbs and industrial waste are breeding grounds for despair but I've lived in enough cities to quite like the squalor and crowds too. However - just lately, I've gotten used to big skies and the simpler life of an outback town. The Highlands sounds bloody marvellous too

@tregeagle The journey reinforced my life choice. There are some disadvantages to living in the country, but, from my perspective, the positives far outweigh any negatives.I've lived in some big cities because my education and jobs took me there. I mostly enjoyed my time in these cities. Although, my leisure activities invariably took me to the countryside. Now, I also live and work in the countryside.

@fitheach I love that about journeys. They are not just physical but also mental explorations of how we feel about places. It often leads to profound thoughts on where we are in the world and where we want to be. For example right now I would rather not be in this airport hotel but rather riding my bicycle on the Mawson Trail (ok, not profound) ☺️

@tregeagle It is about seeing things from a different perspective. I once read a technique for re-assessing an old familiar photograph: look at the image reflected in a mirror. Simple, but, effective. A journey to somewhere unfamiliar is similar.
