It has become very popular, locally, to have chainsaw-carved creatures on display outside shops, restaurants, and bars. Personally, I think it is a load of bull.#Highlands #Scotland

I've been driving a Renault Trafic van. It has been a mostly enjoyable experience, except for a few niggles. One such niggle is the split-view wing mirrors. Whose dumb idea was that? The mirrors are split into two sections. The top section, comprising 2/3 of the area, give normal magnification. The lower section gives a magnified view. This arrangement makes reversing more difficult. For example, when reversing into lined bays, the line is shown with a kink because of the magnification.

I'm sure the vehicle designers thought split-view mirrors were a good idea, but, did they check them in the real world? In the past, I've often looked askance at some people's lack of reversing skills, particularly in lined bays. Next time, I'll check what kind of mirrors they have, before tut-tutting and shaking my head. 😃

Painted stone found in the forest, during to-day's #DogWalk. Text on the stone states: "May your 2025 be full of...".What will your 2025 be full of, or what would you like it be full of?Answers on a postcard, or in the comments below.

What a bummer!Needed to charge the batteries for my head torch (for walkies, later to-night). Plugged my charger into the socket and the earth pin snapped. Without a functioning earth pin the live and neutral pins won't connect.A replacement power transformer is about £15. A whole new smart charger is about £15.I feel a bodge coming on...

Currently watching "Beowulf & Grendel" (2005).It bothers me that there is an enormous plot hole in the movie. The king of the Danes and his men kill Grendel's father with arrows, and he then falls over a cliff. Grendel then seeks revenge on the Danes. Beowulf comes to the aid of the Danes. Beowulf kills Grendel with his bare hands, as a troll's skin cannot be pierced by mortal weapons.Wait a minute.... what about those arrows?#movies #films

The epic poem, upon which the film is loosely based, has no such plot hole. Grendel was just motivated by being a badass, as is the nature of all trolls (actually a eoten).

I have a Windows 11 laptop which I use for the car OBD software. I decided to also have Debian installed on this laptop. I used the Debian Live installer. The installer offered to shrink the Windows partition, and install Debian on the remainder. It all worked flawlessly. No need to faff around with a separate partition manager. #FOSS installers have become so proficient. There is really no excuse for not having a free operating system.#Debian #Windows

@tregeagle The journey reinforced my life choice. There are some disadvantages to living in the country, but, from my perspective, the positives far outweigh any negatives.I've lived in some big cities because my education and jobs took me there. I mostly enjoyed my time in these cities. Although, my leisure activities invariably took me to the countryside. Now, I also live and work in the countryside.

@tregeagle It is about seeing things from a different perspective. I once read a technique for re-assessing an old familiar photograph: look at the image reflected in a mirror. Simple, but, effective. A journey to somewhere unfamiliar is similar.
