There's been this cottage genre of therian posting on social media as of late, all in some vein of "You have always been a creature~" and... it kinda all collectively misses the mark for me...? And keeps reinforcing my own mental picture of what it means to be therian which I clearly do not fit into, either.And yet there's this jarring vacuum of nothing that can reaffirm someone/something like me.

it just feels kind of hollow to have to accept that I'm something else on the fringes of otherkin/therian because I don't fit the apparent mould."You're still valid." doesn't convince me, either, when all of the depictions don't fit.

I'm not a creature that belongs in the wild like therian cottage core depicts. That's just not me.I'm happiest when I'm making a thing, like in a workshop.I'm happiest when I'm at the wheel (or yoke of an aircraft) putting miles behind me.*I'm happiest when I'm snuggled up in the comforting arms of someone I trust.*I'm not really a nature creature.I'm *something else.*I'm an other to the collective otherkin/therian definition.

"Don't worry about the labels" isn't as reassuring as it seems on the face either, because labels serve dual-purpose of finding community connections that are tenuous at best when there is no label to reinforce them.
