Apparently in 2024 a new paper was published into why insects get stuck flying around artificial lights.It's really interesting. I know nothing about insects but it seems a plausible theory: the idea is that insects use light to determine Up and Down for attitude control, so they orient the top of their bodies to the light (the sky is lighter than the ground even at night)!Super interesting read, check it out!https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-44785-3#Insects #Entomology #Moths

@Satori It's the first time I've heard of such a plausible explanation, there have been plenty of attempts!It makes me wonder how it feels to a moth. If they use light rather than gravity to orient themselves, flying over a bulb might feel a bit like falling into some kind of gravity well!It's cool to think about š
