I'm amusing myself this morning by drilling down a bit into a Clown World Finance (Yahoo) article about the alcohol industry being in a tailspin because people are drinking less. A cited source to support the article, a Gallop poll, hangs it all on health consciousness. When I look at their data, taking into account the historical context of where the numbers are now, I see war, economy, and politics. The giveaway: currently, Republicans are drinking considerably less, democrats the same.

The Gallop poll:https://news.gallup.com/poll/693362/drinking-rate-new-low-alcohol-concerns-surge.aspxIn particular, the 1939-2025 chart, I see: WWII, drinking way up; post-war into the 50's economy, way down; 60's into the 70's stagflation, way up; 80's under Reagan, way down; choppy until the Buyden Installation, then up; dropping fast under Trump 2.0.

@one_percent This doesn’t list a percentage who don’t drink because they are put on meds and told they can’t drink because of them. I bet that’s also higher.

@Killer_Mule I'm basically down to one day per week, Fridays, when I go to the microbrew pub I'm a mug club member of. My basic reason: I really like mornings, and booze interferes with them.

@commandlinekid @one_percent I think part of it is resurgence of craft beer, part of it is corporate optics showcasing their anti-competitive nature, part of it is corporate embracing idealogy that wants to kill you, part of it is rising costs, part of it is an attempt to be only addicted to things their parents were not.
