Tonight, I'm having an absolute blast playing around with Microsoft's Flight Simulator 4.0 and its "Experimental Jet Aircraft" from the "Aircraft & Scenery Designer" expansion.Seeing this old game, which is so dear to my heart, running super smooth in full SVGA resolution and with all of this extra in-game content makes my inner 12 year old jump up and down from excitement! There was a BBS way back in the day with a 1-800 number where you could get insane stuff for FS4. I had files for an SR-71, a Goodyear Blimp .. lots of other stuff. And they flew pretty close to what you'd expect on a 286 flight simulator

Also that airport where you start at in Chicago is gone. A former mayor destroyed it to make a park. I use to cycle around it all the time.

oh damn. That is very awesome. I'm glad you got to see it as an airfield! When I lived there, the air traffic tower was still there as a kinda historical landmark, but the rest was a park. The old runway was all swamp/marsh. Still kinda neat, but I tried to imagine what the airfield looked like.

@djsumdog @dfx that happened shortly before I moved there. The city paid a huge fine to the feds as a result. Daley did what he wanted and never got caught for anything but most around him did. 🤔

@tyil I do prefer a lively airfield with lots of traffic from small planes, tourists and hobby pilots over a stupid swamp. We're talking about a patch of land right at the doorstep of a city, not an untouched wilderness.
