Please don't plug keyboards or other devices into random USB ports, ok?

@nclm I only realised the coincidence of "bus" being in the USB name after I finished this haha

@sheepfilms haha, yes I can imagine, we don’t think that often of what it means!I wish we would actually call it “bus” instead of “USB” in daily life, it would be more playful!Someone in the 60s or something amusingly called stuff to transport data “buses” and that was a fun idea, and it was ruined in the 90s by hiding it into an initialism :(

@nclm @sheepfilms Wait, there's no deep scientific reason why it's called a bus? Just "haha funny"?I like that.

@ozzelot @nclm @sheepfilms Maybe it was because of a longish data bus resembling the long vehicle with its windows?

@ozzelot @nclm @sheepfilms I have no idea if it's true, but I the literal interpretation (bus=>thing which moves stuff between fixed points) seems fairly reasonable to me given a data bus moves data between some number of points.

@the_decryptor @nclm @sheepfilms From this, we logically arrive at the question "why are bus bars called bus bars?"
