@ai6yr They are valuable, but I am also a fan of the "If it can't be used by an eight year-old to get to school in peak hour, then it''s not a cycling facility". Which I heard in a presentation at an active transport conference.

@GossiTheDog Nothing made Australian building sites safer as when company CEOs and Directors were held personally, criminally, severally liable for worker safety.

The most persistent misuse of content providers right now is AI scraping. It's amounting to an ongoing denial of service attack. All large language models trained from unlicensed Australian works are prevented from use in Australia by the Copyright Act's fair dealing -- we don't have fair use.Based on past Australian Government responses to copyright infringement you might expect a robust response from government agencies. LOL.

BYD, MG and Kia EVs all outsold Tesla in April in Australia.Tesla will do better with vehicles registered in May, due to Model Y Juniper preorders from January (ie, prior to the Musk Slump).

So with Lot 14 (the old RAH hospital) Adelaide had the opportunity to bring the Botanic Gardens into the heart of the CBD. So have a high school in the grounds of a garden, to have the major university across the road from a garden, with research institutes in places. Instead Lot14 built an impenetrable wall between the city and garden. It really was a missed opportunity.

My view is that if you've spent five years in Australia making a contribution to our country then you should automatically become a citizen. No application needed, the Tax Office sends you the certificate in the mail.

The Guardian:> Cash claimed the government had “seemingly lowered the threshold” for imposing Magnitsky-style sanctions... [on two Israeli politicians]Lol. The Liberal Party government led by Malcolm Fraser sanctioned every member of the South African legislature, for years.#auspol

@stux @stroz Well that was an excessively weird trip down the rabbit hole.Seems to think South Australia is a suburb of Chicago. So it gave me a heap of illegal food imports and investment scams.

@nixCraft The person clearly wants to develop software, has been banging their head against the hardest part of the craft, and their choice of tools let them down. Before people say "start with real tools", here are the instructions for using the beginner-friendly Python language to make an IOS app:https://kivy.org/doc/stable/guide/packaging-ios.htmlThe industry has clearly let down beginning programmers. Let's not blame them for choosing ridiculous places to start from when we have not provided sane places to start from.

@foone If it's not in Holst's The Planets, then by musical definition it is not a planet. [Pluto was sighted after The Planets was inspired]If you want to dispute this, show how the IAU process was a better method. "Oh, we've too many planets in the solar system and it's growing all the time. That will make the solar system 'too big'". "Why is 'too big' a problem in this era of databases?" "Well... <an appeal to social criteria>". Rather than mess about adding a layer of physics, let's just go direct to the social criteria. Also, from a planetary feelings point of view, having promoted Pluto we should have allowed Pluto to be a planet for a year. Its poor ego, promoted and demoted in under one trip around the sun.

@Nonilex "[state] law impermissibly regulates the federal government". Laughs in Commonwealth of Australia, where the federal government has fuck all power on the ground for matters outside the black-letter list in the Constitution. "Oh, you want a national school curriculum? Well us states will talk and we'll let you know what that will be."

@mikro2nd @m0xEE @vowe They mean outbound sales calls, where the company calls past customers and new potential customers ('cold call').It's a clever outrage-driven advertising strategy. The response being stoked by the company itself in order to get media coverage it could never afford to buy. They don't care that most of the people reached are not potential customers of the product, since they aren't paying for the promotion. The strategy is not a million miles from spam. Since it has worked well we'll doubtless see more of it.

@vkc There is history. What fuels the anger is the annoyance at the lack of reflection within Gnome of its role in the failure of desktop Linux. Most notably it's insular design choices in Gnome 3, and the early shipment of that non-ready software, reducing Linux's share of the market from MacOS levels to a third of that.Today, yet another insular design choice by Gnome. Of course people are going to give them stick. Even if it's a good decision.

@futurebird Suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. All three. But given that wireless charging is a feature reserved for high end phones, not sure how useful that is. Local government clearly isn't going to put 240V power on a socket in the street, so their choices are limited.
