I'm like irrationally afraid of cognitive decline I worry that I'm gonna be like genuinely incapable of understanding complex lines of thought by the time I'm 30

@missfeast recent medical studies into the phenomenon known as "neuroplasticity" have suggested that one can maintain or improve cognition by "exercising" the brain with copious amounts of drvgs 💫

@rowb1t @missfeast I had a lot of cognitive decline in my late 20s then I buckled down, stopped smoking so much, ate better food and started taking my vitamins, used shrooms, took a bunch of mild nootropics, and hit the books re-learning all the things I used to know about like history, chemistry, biology, philosophy, etc. and now I'm doing just as well as I was at 19 if not better. obviously there are some forms of neurodegeneration that can't be easily healed because it's caused by like protein buildups or myelin degeneration, but for most cognitive declines it's something you can actively fix in a few years if you prioritize it. also tbh a lot of it is increased by issues with anxiety, avoidance, etc--if understanding a situation is too stressful, blocking understanding can be a way to cope. so you might have to do some meditation and chod / "shadow work" and whatnot.

@lunaticlucidity @rowb1t @missfeast same lol I've been in the process of doing this for like the past year (as hard as it may be to believe since even at my worst I've still been pretty sharp). people really underestimate how cool our brains are, it's like an incredibly unique self-contained network in our skulls that can heal and change itself, and you can literally grow fungi for free to accelerate the process.

@nyx @missfeast @rowb1t jung is one of the few authors whose works should actually all be burned and expunged from the timeline but the concept of what gets called "shadow work" is actually just westernized oversimplified tibetan chod practice. tbh the 'shadow work' trend in woo circles is one of the best things to come out of those spaces, you can actually just go with like a lot of basic burning man shakti type crunchy granola hippie chick analyses of the idea of exploring your repressed / negative emotions and get most of what you need there. if you're really looking for something more in depth do some research into chod and translate the relevant ritual components from a tibetan to lainpilled neoamazonian cultural context.

@lunaticlucidity @missfeast @rowb1t ah I've pretty much already been doing this on my own, just in a very idiosyncratic way without the Buddhism stuff, and thinking over exactly how to translate it into a piece of writing that would be able to get the ideas across in this context for like practical neoamazonian internal insurrectionary purposes

@nyx @missfeast @rowb1t so a lot of like westoid chaos magic stuff about servitors and whatnot is foundationally built off of vajrayana buddhist consciousness practices and shakti tantrism. the short short version is you take all the things in your broad definition of "self" that are repressed / suppressed / abjected / opposed and you set up a sort of diplomatic negotiation ritual where you manifest these things as a "demon" (not using the christian definition of demon tbc) and have a discussion over your similarities and differences until you can reach a consensus that allows some sort of integration of your "shadow self". there's a lot of references to this sort of stuff in pop culture nowadays so it sounds a little silly but if you take it very seriously and actually induce a ritual trance state and whatnot it can be very effective. and integrating these things makes it a lot easier to go into fucked up states and through high stress situations without crashing out, because you have control of your "dark side" as part of yourself.obviously also these practices can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing or fuck it up, worst case scenario you can 'lose' and the 'dark side' totally takes over or you can deepen the repression making you more neurotic. so be careful, make sure you're in a state where you're ready to face these things and accept these parts of yourself, etc.

@lunaticlucidity @missfeast @rowb1t lol yeah you're just describing stuff that I started doing more or less completely independently. reading some Daoist texts and learning about their concepts of gods and demons was a major source of inspiration but I kinda just ran with it. I didn't realize this was a whole ass high level practice in Buddhism but what can I say I'm just built different and am pretty much in my daily life engaged in the practice of cultivating stillness and communing with my demons and goddesses. good to know my mystic intuitions are sharp though
