@morrigan one of the many little pet projects I've had in my backlog has been trying to create some sort of space for engaging with philosophy that doesn't rely on trying to emulate the university but without any money at all, because it's just the student-professor relation but the entire concept of having to study a canon of works that are supposedly important and then talking-about them that is the problem with how philosophy (and also adjacent humanities stuff) is taught imo. it's good to engage with things that other people have written to orient yourself in a discussion, and it's good to be able to defer to people who have more knowledge of it than you to lead discussions or whatever, but ultimately the point of philosophy is to do philosophy, which is not the same thing as a book clubthough no matter how you slice this it'd still involve a fair amount of work on my part to do something like this and I've been working on being more realistic with my ambitions to focus on actually getting shit done
