I'd rather we all use the same social media network and follow people we disagree with and find ways to push back on bullshit in ways that might get listened to, instead of living in echo chambers of algos and mass media tailored to our partisanship and ideology. The first is more difficult but the latter will ultimately make us worse people. I get telling people you don't want their feedback sometimes but as much as possible and when they are not trolling, try to see where they are coming from.

@wjmaggos It's rarely worth arguing online with someone who disagrees with you -- how many times have you changed your mind about something because of some online stranger arguing with you?If it's someone who follows you, or who has interacted positively with you in the past, then disagreement might lead to a constructive discussion.

@mpjgregoire I'm not sure minds ever flip 180° but I do think we can provide new information or perspectives to people who disagree (links are best). That has happened to me. And then there might be other people reading it too.

@wjmaggos One of the tricky things is that our minds don't like to admit that they were wrong, so if you do ever change your mind, there's a tendency to forget that you had ever thought differently.
