I don't understand what this article has to do with anything.Italians, Irish, Chinese ... if they came over as a family during any of the periods of immigration influx prior to child labor laws, they essentially had a bunch of free labor; labor dedicated to the family's survival. You'd easily be able to find a lot of businesses dominated by immigrant families all over places like NYC.Even one of my good high school friends and his brother worked constantly in his family's Chinese restaurant growing up. They were basically free labor. Both of them went to college and got different carriers, but there are many situations where these things stay within the family for generations. Gas stations and restaurants are the most common.If it has any relation at all to your second link, those family businesses were also the most likely to survive the scamdemic due to having that labor pool.

@djsumdog Many family run businesses were collapsed by the lockdowns. The corporations wanted this. Child labor laws are very damaging to families. Instead of children being productive on the farm or elsewhere, they become a burden to the family which causes parents to have less of them. On top of that, children are forced by law to go to indoctrination centers known as public schools unless the parents can afford to have them be a further burden by paying for private schools. The Patels got around child labor laws. Many of their family members were here illegally. If family members are undocumented, the state is not looking for them to be in school.The main problem is that the Patels are not Americans and were allowed to take over the hotel industry. We can find similar stories in many other places.

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but there's an ocean between the US and India. Most Indians came over legally. My father included. Full work visa to greencard to citizenship. He didn't start a business. He was a EE and worked in nuclear plans for 30 years and put me and my sister through college. I will say this about my Chinese friend working in that restaurant, it did suck he and his brothers worked all of those hours. I never thought that was cool. But it was legal for both he and his brother to work there. Neither worked kitchen until they were over 16. They didn't cheat on any labor laws. Education is insanely important to middle class Indian families. Your kids always go to school. You have to get good grades. You have to go to college. My dad got his engineering degree, learned English, found a job and came over legally. He got his citizenship on his own before I turned 18. I never sponsored him or my sister. If I was born in India, Japan, or any other nation, they would not consider me Indian or Japanese. I hope you can understand that. @BasedLunatic English colonization was very different from Spanish. When the English came, they brought their wives and family and rarely mixed with the Indians. Few Spanish women came with the conquistadors which led to huge miscegenation and the mestizos who largely populate Mesoamerica. Although English and Spanish were of very similar genetics and culture, this mixing or non mixing led to very different civilizations. @djsumdog
